Introducing the Alumni Mentoring Program

The Alumni Advisory Committee (AAC) has been making considerable progress on alumni involvement in the past weeks. We have been assessing several options for alumni to engage with the Society and current students. We know that you have busy lives, so we want to create opportunities for alumni engagement that will fit even the tightest schedule. The most exciting of our new prospective programs is what we are calling the Alumni Mentoring Program.

In this concept, each Junior Member would pick from a list of participating alumni to be their career mentor. This mentor would serve as an advisor on all things “grown up”. What is it like to work in X industry? What type of education would set me up for a job doing X? What is X employer looking for from a fresh graduate or internship? The mentorship period could be a semester, a year or longer.

We envision that this program provides some professional direction to Junior Members while enabling alumni to engage with students and fellow mentors. By having a couple short conversations with a young member, you could have a great impact on their career path, and therefore their life.
