About
Who Are We
The revitalized RSE is a modern alternative to traditional “Greek life”: a trifecta of student self-governance, living-learning-collaboration, and personal/professional development empowering members to pursue their many interests alongside like-minded peers beyond the classroom.
Though much has changed, our 150+ year mission has not: support the development of well-rounded, successful leaders in science, technology, architecture and business. Our core values remain the same:
Leadership & Teamwork
Innovation
Social Responsibility
A few facts about us:
- We’ve been around since 1866, always a ‘local’ organization, always associated only with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
- We cherish our strong and historic ties with Rensselaer.
- In spite of our historic name, students in all majors at RPI are welcome to be members of RSE.
- We’ve had diverse and eclectic members including RPI students, faculty, administration as well as members of the community.
- We’ve been student run since 1866, organizationally as well as financially, while maintaining close ties with our 800+ alumni organization.
- We’ve always had a sense of independence, we chart our own course.
- We live in a 100-year-old building that was constructed specifically for RSE and is now in the National Register of Historic Places, Reference No. 100003629.
